John Asuncion has 15 years of experience as a graduate-level mental health counselor and utilizes a holistic, person-centered approach in his therapy practice. He provides teletherapy to creatives residing in New York and Maine with a focus on personal growth and life-satisfaction. Mr. Asuncion helps his clients cultivate personal insights through exploration, develop effective strategies to enhance well-being, and move from psychological and emotional pain toward healing and greater happiness.
John is a past president of the New York Mental Health Counselors Association, Hudson Valley Chapter; has served as a clinician, adjunct instructor, and program director across five higher education institutions; and the author of Malcolm the Musician: So Close to Home--a book on gaslighting for the inner child.
Further, John has directed short- and long-term inpatient treatment programs addressing the needs of people in recovery from substance use disorders, juvenile sex offenders, adolescents diagnosed with severe conduct disorder, and trauma survivors; and led outpatient support services for community members living with HIV-/AIDS.
